Makeover his bathroom cabinet

If you're dating or married to a metrosexual male, chances are you're already swiping his skin care products, so you need not read any further. If, however, you're like the majority of women, you probably find yourself periodically trying to coax your special someone into using some of your own skin care products.

Men often miss out on the benefits and pleasures of good skin care, mostly because they view health and beauty products as too "girly", too "high maintenance," or, more often than not, they're just a little clueless about where to start. Here's how you can help.

We've picked out the five top products that address men's most common hygienic needs and, based on their effectiveness, ease of use, and decidedly "ungirly" fragrance and packaging, are products that your man is likely to use — and actually even like. Sneak these into his bathroom cabinet where he can find them easily — and keep them hidden from his buddies.

  1. Conditioning Shave Lotion. Though this product might go ignored at first, this is something that he will eventually use when he runs out of his own shaving lotion. Once he slathers on a fine shave cream and gets a super smooth shave that leaves his skin moisturized and attractively scented, it's unlikely that he'll be able to resist the sheer luxury of using this product again.
  2. The Right Face Wash for His Skin Type. Is your man the kind of guy who scrubs his face with regular bar soap...and then suffers from skin problems? Help solve any skin issues by getting him the right face wash for his skin type. If he has oily skin or he's acne-prone, you can go wrong with Proactiv. If he has dry or very sensitive skin, get him a bottle of Cetaphil Face Cleanser. Neither product looks or smells feminine and both are extremely effective, easy to use, and easy for him to replace when he runs out.
  3. Acne Lotion. If your guy has acne-prone skin, make sure to get him a bottle of acne medication like Proactiv Renewing Lotion or N.V. Perricone M.D. Acne Treatment Gel Cream. His skin will thank you for it.
  4. High Quality Nail Clippers. Since men's nails are often much thicker and tougher than women's, those cheapy nail clippers just aren't going to cut it. Help your man take better care of his hands and feet by getting him some high-quality, heavy-duty toenail clippers (he can use them for his fingernails too). Tweezerman clippers are inexpensive, but well made and virtually indestructible.
  5. A Non-Girly Chapstick or Lip Balm. Again, no-frills necessary here. Just get him some lipbalm that he can apply to help take care of those chapped lips. When you notice his smooches getting smoother, don't say anything about him using his new lip balm...just giving him another kiss should say it all!
